BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TRAINEE (BMT) - ENGINEERING

Function: Engineering & Projects
PROGRAMME PURPOSE
The Business Management Trainee (Engineering) Programme is a structured graduate development programme designed to develop high-potential finance professionals into future business leaders. Through rotational assignments, site exposure, technical mentoring, and project participation, trainees will develop the practical skills and engineering expertise required to successfully plan, coordinate, and deliver infrastructure and construction projects, typically over a 12 to 24-month period before confirmation into a substantive role. This programme offers an accelerated pathway into permanent supervisory and management positions upon successful completion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning & Engineering Support
- Assist in project planning, scheduling, resource coordination, and progress monitoring
- Support engineering design reviews, technical drawings, and specification verification.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to project planning activities
- Monitor project milestones and support timely project execution.
Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal engineering teams
- Assist in resolving technical queries and site coordination challenges.
- Support communication between Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and other project disciplines.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure work progresses according to approved schedules.
Site Supervision & Quality Assurance
- Support site supervision and monitor construction activities against approved drawings and specifications.
- Conduct routine quality inspections and assist in identifying construction defects or non-conformities.
- Participate in snagging activities and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Promote compliance with engineering standards and project specifications.
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance
- Support implementation of Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies on project sites.
- Participate in safety inspections, toolbox talks, and risk assessments
- Monitor compliance with workplace safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Report safety observations and support corrective actions where required.
Project Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Assist in preparing technical reports, method statements, inspection reports, and progress updates.
- Support preparation of as-built drawings and project handover documentation
- Maintain organized engineering records and project documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and project performance
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related Engineering discipline (Minimum Second Class Upper Division or equivalent).
- Graduated within the last 1-3 years, strong academic record and evidence of leadership or initiative
Preferred Qualifications
- Eligibility for Graduate Engineer registration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) is an added advantage
Technical Skills
- AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software, Microsoft Project (or other project planning tools), Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel, PowerPoint), Engineering Drawings & Technical Documentation, Basic Quantity Estimation and Site Reporting
