BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TRAINEE (BMT) - QUANTITY SURVEYING
Reports to: Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager
Function: Commercial & Cost Management
PROGRAMME PURPOSE
The Business Management Trainee (Quantity Surveying) Programme is a structured graduate development programme designed to develop high-potential finance professionals into future business leaders. Through rotational assignments, project exposure, and mentorship, trainees will gain practical experience in quantity surveying, cost planning. procurement, contract administration, and commercial management across the Group's construction and development projects, typically over a 12 to 24-month period before confirmation into a substantive role. This programme offers an accelerated pathway into permanent supervisory and management positions upon successful completion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Measurement & Cost Estimation
- Assist in quantity take-offs and measurement of construction works
- Support the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQs), cost estimates, and pricing schedules.
- Assist in developing project budgets and cost plans.
- Contribute to cost benchmarking and value engineering initiatives
Procurement & Contract Administration
- Support tender preparation, bid evaluation, and procurement activities.
- Assist in reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Help administer contracts and monitor contractual obligations.
- Maintain accurate commercial documentation and procurement records.
Commercial Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in cost analysis and project performance reviews.
- Support value engineering and process improvement initiatives.
- Assist in resolving commercial queries and project cost issues.
- Contribute ideas that enhance efficiency, profitability, and commercial governance.
Commercial & Cost Management
- Assist in monitoring project costs against approved budgets and forecasts
- Support preparation of interim valuations, payment certificates, and variation orders.
- Track project expenditures and contribute to commercial reporting.
- Assist in identifying cost saving opportunities while maintaining project quality
Project Documentation & Financial Reporting
- Prepare commercial reports, cost summaries, and project progress documentation.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of measurements, claims, and contract variations.
- Support reconciliation of quantities, payments, and project accounts.
- Contribute to preparation of final accounts and project close-out documentation.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline (Minimum Second-Class Upper Division or equivalent).
- Graduated within the last 1-3 years: strong academic record and evidence of leadership or initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
- Eligibility for Graduate Registration with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) is an added advantage.
Technical Skills
Microsoft Excel (Intermediate to Advanced), Microsoft Office Suite (Word. PowerPoint), Quantity Take-Off & Measurement Techniques, Cost Estimation & Budgeting, Exposure to Quantity Surveying or Cost Management Software (eg., CostX, Buildsoft, WinQS, or equivalent) is advantageous
