BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TRAINEE (BMT) – FINANCE
Reports to: Group Finance Manager / Financial Controller
Function: Finance & Accounts
PROGRAMME PURPOSE
The Business Management Trainee (Finance) Programme is a structured graduate development programme designed to develop high-potential finance professionals into future business leaders. Through rotational assignments, hands-on project exposure, mentoring, and continuous leaming, trainees will gain practical experience across the Group’s finance operations while building strong commercial acumen and leadership capabilities, typically over a 12 to 24-month period before confirmation into a substantive role. This programme offers an accelerated pathway into permanent supervisory and management positions upon successful completion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Assist in preparing departmental budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
- Support cash flow monitoring and financial planning activities
- Contribute to financial modelling and cost analysis exercises.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Support audit preparation by compiling schedules and supporting documents.
- Assist with statutory and tax compliance including VAT, PAYE, and withholding tax.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and intemal controls
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information at all times.
Accounts & Financial Operations
- Support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
- Verify invoices, payments, expense claims, and supporting documentation.
- Assist in petty cash management and expense reconciliations.
- Follow up on outstanding receivables where required.
Business Analysis & Projects
- Participate in finance improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects.
- Support cost optimization and business performance analysis.
- Prepare presentations, dashboards, and financial insights for management.
- Contribute ideas that improve financial processes and operational efficiency.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics, or a related discipline (minimum Second-Class Upper Division or equivalent).
- Graduated within the last 1-3 years; strong academic record and evidence of leadership or initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
Progress towards CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification is an added advantage
Technical Skills
Microsoft Excel (Intermediate to Advanced), Microsoft Office Suite, Basic Financial Modelling, Exposure to ERP or Accounting Systems (SAP, Sage, QuickBooks, Oracle, etc.) is advantageous, Excellent communication skills in English: Kiswahili an advantage.
