The Procurement and Contracting Department enables effective programme implementation by providing professional procurement and contracting services, advisory support, stakeholder coordination, and compliance oversight in accordance with GIZ regulations and organizational requirements.
Role Summary
Duty Station: Nairobi
Duration of Assignment: Six (6) months

The Procurement & Contracting Intern supports the department in delivering procurement and contracting services in line with GIZ policies and procedures.
Working under the supervision of department staff, the Intern assists with procurement operations, records management, stakeholder coordination, reporting, and administrative tasks while gaining practical exposure to procurement and contracting processes, compliance requirements, digital systems, and stakeholder engagement within an international development environment.
Responsibilities
1. Procurement and Contracting Support
- Assist in preparing, organizing, and maintaining procurement and contracting documentation.
- Support tracking of procurement actions, timelines, and documentation.
- Conduct market research and information gathering.
- Assist in preparing reports, summaries, and presentations.
2. Records and Information Management
- Support filing, archiving, and records management in CORE and other approved systems.
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation.
- Assist with document retrieval for audits, reviews, and reporting.
3. Stakeholder and Administrative Support
- Support coordination of meetings, consultations, and follow-up actions.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders and business partners regarding documentation requirements.
- Prepare meeting notes, action trackers, and other administrative records.
4. Learning and Capacity Development
- Participate in departmental meetings, briefings, and learning activities.
- Support knowledge-sharing and process improvement initiatives.
- Gain practical exposure through job shadowing, coaching, and guided learning across different procurement and contracting modalities.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Public Administration, Economics, Law, or a related field.
- Applicants must have graduated within the last twelve (12) months.
Competencies
- Demonstrated interest in procurement, contracting, supply chain management, administration, or related operational functions.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to learn new systems and organizational processes.
