Working Hours: As per company policy, not exceeding the maximum hours prescribed under the Employment Act (Cap. 226, Laws of Kenya)
I. Position Summary
As an IT Officer, you will take hands-on responsibility for the day-to-day ICT operations of the organization – maintaining and supporting IT infrastructure, networks, hardware, and systems, providing first-line technical support, and safeguarding IT security, compliance, and asset records across all sites (RLR1, RLR2, RLR3, DCC). Applying a strong Computer Engineering foundation, you will keep systems, networks, and equipment reliable and available at all times. II. Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure & Networking: Maintain and support hardware, servers, and networking equipment across all sites, ensuring 24/7 uptime of servers, network infrastructure, firewalls, access points, and emails.
- Connectivity & Continuity: Manage VPN monitoring for secure offsite access, and monitor and optimize internet services, including secondary internet options for business continuity.
- Security & Data Protection: Implement cybersecurity and data-protection measures against malware, phishing, and external attacks; manage user access control; and maintain data backups and disaster-recovery arrangements.
- Systems Maintenance & Support: Support critical business systems (Sun System, payroll, clocking systems), carry out software installations, updates, and patches, and support Microsoft 365 and wireless scanning solutions.
- Helpdesk & User Support: Provide first-line support for hardware, software, printers, scanners, and network connectivity; set up and maintain end-user devices; and document incidents and resolutions.
- Physical & Smart Systems: Maintain and support VOIP, CCTV, access-control, and barcode/wireless scanning systems, and provide networking and hardware support for loT projects (Al sensors, climate monitoring, EC-PH, and other smart solutions).
- Compliance & Systems Audit: Enforce ICT policies and security standards, support internal ICT audits, maintain audit-ready documentation, and periodically review CCTV footage and Navitrac (vehicle movement) logs.
- Asset Management: Maintain an accurate IT asset inventory (hardware, software licenses, AMCs), track warranties and preventive maintenance, assist in procurement documentation, and lead periodic IT asset stock-take exercises.
- Training & Documentation: Train new staff at induction, provide refresher and cybersecurity-awareness training, maintain SOPs and IT documentation, and liaise with vendors for support, repairs, and upgrades.
III. Key Objectives

- Uphold IT security, backups, and data-protection standards.
- Maintain accurate IT assets, documentation, and SOPs.
- Support systems, users, and smart-solution projects across the organization.
IV. Key Performance Indicators
- System Uptime: Network, server, and hardware availability; downtime minimized
- Support Resolution: Timeliness of first-line issue resolution
- Security & Backups: Cybersecurity posture; backup and disaster-recovery readiness
- Compliance & Audit: IT audit findings and non-conformities kept to a minimum
- Assets & Documentation: Accuracy of asset inventory, SOPs, and IT records
V. Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Criteria to Apply
- Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering (or Electrical & Computer / Electronics Engineering). A Computer Engineering background is required for this role.
Class: Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or higher.
KCSE Grade: Minimum overall grade of B (Plain) or higher.
Experience: Minimum 2-3 years’ hands-on experience in IT infrastructure, networking, hardware, and systems support.
Additional Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Knowledge: Network infrastructure, cybersecurity, hardware troubleshooting, and Windows Server / SQL Server administration; familiarity with VOIP, CCTV, access-control, and IoT systems; and Microsoft 365 and cloud-based systems.
- Certifications (Desirable): CCNA / CompTIA Network+ or IT Security (CompTIA Security+); cloud (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud); and scripting (Python, PowerShell).
- Soft Skills: Strong initiative, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Communication: Good English communication skills (spoken and written).
- Other: Eligible to work in Kenya.
VI. Pathway to Permanent Role
- Mid-Probation Review (3 months): A review of technical delivery, reliability, and conduct, with feedback on progress.
- Confirmation Assessment (6 months): Strong performance may qualify you for a permanent IT Officer position. Your performance, initiative, and reliability throughout the probationary period are key to your success.
