Woodland Star International School are recruiting a School Counsellor Intern for a 3-6 Months unpaid, voluntary internship placement at Brackenhurst, Limuru, Kenya for the 2026/2027 school year.

Purpose of the Role:

The School Counsellor intern supports the social-emotional, academic, and well-being needs of students while gaining practical experience in a learner-centered educational environment. Working under the guidance of the School Counsellor and school leadership, the intern contributes to counselling programs, student support initiatives, and the overall well-being of the school community. The role contributes to the emotional, social, and academic wellbeing of students while aligning with WSS's mission to cultivate self-directed, connected, and globally mindful learners.

Key Responsibilities

Student Services

• Provide supervised and confidential counselling services to students through individual or small group sessions.
• Support students with personal, social, emotional, or educational concerns under the guidance of the school counsellor.
• Help students define goals, plan actions, and gain insight through reflective and therapeutic processes.

Training and Professional Growth

• Participate in biweekly supervision sessions with a member of the counselling department.
• Attend professional learning workshops and reflective practice sessions organized by WSS.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and stay informed about current trends in counselling and education.

Administrative and Collaborative Support

• Maintain appropriate and confidential counselling records in accordance with school policies.
• Participate in student support meetings and professional learning discussions.
• Support scheduling, data collection, and preparation of counselling materials.
• Help organize counselling events, awareness campaigns, and parent workshops.
• Contribute to a culture of belonging, inclusion, and respect within the school community.

Qualifications and Experience

• Candidate should be pursuing a Master's degree in Counselling, Psychology, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a diverse, learner-centered and inclusive environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with students, staff, and families.
• High emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience to manage diverse student needs.
• Organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical practice.
• A reflective, adaptive, and growth-oriented mindset aligned with WSS's core values.
