At the same time, we influence systemic changes to ensure people with disabilities thrive in inclusive environments. Our Inclusive Business approach equips entrepreneurs with the tools and networks they need to succeed in competitive markets, while advocating for a business environment that embraces diversity. We also partner with organisations and institutions to foster inclusive workplaces by addressing barriers such as a lack of accessibility, negative attitudes and policies.

Light for the World Kenya is seeking a Communication Intern to contribute to strategic and program-related communications, documentation, and knowledge management efforts.

Role Overview

The Communication Intern will support the communication function at Light for the World Kenya, contributing to strategic and program-related communications, documentation, and knowledge management. This role is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing content, managing social media, supporting branding efforts, and ensuring visibility of Light for the World’s work in Kenya. The Communication Intern will work closely with different teams including programmes, disability inclusion advisory unit and the learning and documentation team to enhance storytelling, brand awareness and the positioning of Light for the World Kenya.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation and Documentation

  • Assist in gathering and documenting multimedia impact stories, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the design and layout of knowledge and learning products such as reports, newsletters, and briefs.
  • Ensure communication materials align with the organization’s branding and UNCRPD accessibility standards.

Social Media and Digital Communication

  • Collaborates with the Communications team to conceptualize, design and implement an inclusive and creative social media strategy that drives audience engagement and raise the visibility of Light for the World Kenya.
  • Compiles and develop compelling, engaging and inclusive content for Light for the World Kenya social media platforms, ensuring alignment with our brand guidelines and markings and is UNCRPD accessibility compliant.
  • Engage in social media listening, report metrics and contribute ideas for audience-centric content.

Event Support and Logistics

  • Assist in planning and executing communication-related field visits and events.
  • Support logistics for media collection exercises, ensuring ethical storytelling and proper consent procedures.
  • Collaborate with Light for the World Kenya program teams to document key moments and milestones.

Branding and Visibility Support

  • Ensure proper branding across all internal and external communication materials.
  • Assist in implementing donor visibility guidelines and branding requirements.
  • Support the coordination of media engagements, including press releases and events.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, media studies, marketing, public relations, graphics design or a related field.
  • Strong multimedia skills in strategic storytelling with a keen eye for detail.
  • Familiarity with social media management and website content development.
  • Demonstratable graphic design and multimedia skills (Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools is a must have.)
  • Prior experience in the social development sector including non-government organizations, government development agencies, either via assignments or other internships, is an added advantage.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-paced multicultural environment.
  • Team player and a creative thinker with a passion for strategic storytelling and modern communication techniques.
