About Us
Hope to the Vulnerable Communities (HOVUC) is a registered community-based organization founded in 2017 and officially registered in 2019, working in Kisumu County and beyond. Our mission is to empower women and youth to create equitable, sustainable change through community-driven innovation. We focus on four core thematic areas: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Economic Empowerment, Climate Justice, and Governance and Accountability.
Through partnerships with schools, health facilities, local governments, and communities, HOVUC empowers women and youth to challenge harmful norms, advocate for their rights, and lead change in their communities. As we expand our programs and strengthen our systems, we are opening internship/attachment opportunities for young, motivated individuals passionate about social change.
Programs Department (2 Posts)
Reports to: Programs Coordinator
Key Responsibilities:
- Support planning, implementation, and monitoring of program activities across HOVUC’s thematic areas.
- Assist in documentation of field activities, success stories, case studies, and reporting.
- Participate in community engagement, outreach, and advocacy events.
- Support development of learning materials and knowledge products.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Ongoing or recently completed degree/diploma in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, Gender Studies, or related fields.
- Strong writing, communication, and documentation skills.
- Interest in SRHR, gender equality, governance, or climate justice.
- Willingness to travel within Kisumu County for field assignments.
Finance/HR & Administration Department (1 Post)
Reports to: Finance Officer
Key Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day finance operations, including filing, data entry, and record keeping.
- Assist in preparation of payment vouchers, receipts, and petty cash reconciliation.
- Help with HR and administrative tasks such as maintaining staff records, drafting correspondence, and logistics support.
- Support audits, donor compliance, and procurement processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Officer.
Qualifications:
- Ongoing or recently completed degree/diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, HR, CPA, or related fields.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and office administration.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word).
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and confidentiality.
General Requirements
- Strong interest in community development, women and youth empowerment, and nonprofit work.
- Proactive, eager to learn, and able to work both independently and in a team.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Must be a resident of Kisumu County or willing to reside in Kisumu County during the internship period.
