African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) brings Rigour and Evidence to Economic Policy Making in Africa. We offer capacity building and inform economic policies in sub-Saharan Africa with three primary components: research, training, and policy outreach.

The AERC is committed to ensuring it gives internship opportunities to recent postgraduates. The objective of the AERC Internship Programme is to develop and prepare recent postgraduates to take up employment opportunities that come up in research, policy making and capacity building institutions. The Internship Programme also provides participants with an excellent opportunity to acquire work-place experience, expand knowledge, refine career goals and build professional networks, mentors and contacts. The interns will in return support the research, capacity building and policy outreach agenda of AERC. The pool of interns will provide the AERC with potential candidates for job opportunities that may arise in the future. The Internship Programme is for a duration of 3 to 6 months after which the candidates are released to pursue opportunities in the wider job market.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Procurement Process Management: Review submitted specifications for PRQs from various departments; Prepare Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and compile summary of quotations; Identify potential suppliers from the prequalified supplier list; Evaluate supplier proposals and assist in contract preparation; and Document proceedings of procurement committee meetings.
  • Contract and Documentation Handling: Draft and dispatch procurement-related documents (e.g., LPOs and contracts); Ensure compliance with procurement procedures and administrative requirements; and Notify tenderers of outcomes and manage contract amendments as necessary.
  • Administrative Support: Maintain well-structured procurement files and records in both the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) and the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Procurement Execution: Ensure timely processing of payments and follow up with suppliers on remittance advice.
  • Evaluation Committee Participation: Serve as secretary during tender evaluations in the absence of the Procurement Officer; and Ensure timely documentation and communication of evaluation outcomes.
  • Asset Management: Tag assets and update the fixed asset register accordingly; and Monitor and manage office supply inventory, ensuring timely replenishment.
  • VAT Management: Process VAT applications and follow up on pending VAT claims with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA); and Maintain accurate records of VAT submissions and receipts.

Qualification And Experience

  • Aged 30 and below at point of submitting application.
  • Holds a minimum of a master’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Is an African who has legal documents that allows him/her to work in Kenya (physically) or remotely from any African country.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) in English, with a working knowledge of another language (e.g. proficiency in French is an added advantage).
