GIZ Kenya is hiring a Finance Intern in Nairobi. You support the finance department by assisting with daily accounting tasks, managing financial documents, and processing payments. This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, strong English and Swahili, and good IT skills. Ready to contribute to sustainable development projects? Based in Nairobi, it partners with Kenyan authorities, private sector, and civil society to improve living conditions through projects focused on economic development, agriculture, renewable energy, and governance.

Finance Intern – Climate Sensitive Agriculture & Pastoralism in Northern Kenya (CLAP)

The Finance Intern is work within the finance department and provide and financial services. This is to be done in compliance with the needs of the projects and the rules and regulations of the GIZ.

Tasks

  • Assist accountants in entering cost codes
  • Scan vouchers for winpaccs clouds
  • Cross referencing copies of vouchers of shared costs filed in each of the different project files for easy tracing of original copy.
  • Assists with local service contracts (e.g. rent, electricity, water etc.), suppliers
  • Enter monitoring data for VAT exemptions
  • Assist in archiving of booked vouchers and shipment of files of closed projects to HQ.
  • Confirmation and timely billing of private calls once received from the provider to the concerned staff members.
  • Support in providing documents required during Internal Control or external audits.
  • Photocopying invoices of shared cost cluster
  • Prepare excel sheets for mpesa details for payments
  • Supports the organisation of events and field trips and payments
  • Distribute the DA1 forms to suppliers once fully approved
  • Filing financial administration documents in accordance to GIZ filing rules

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelorโ€™s degree in accounting/finance or equivalent in a relevant field.

Professional experience

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili
  • Good analytical, communications and interpersonal as well as intercultural skills

Additional competence

  • Teamwork
  • Result orientation
  • Willingness to acquire new knowledge and being flexible
  • Ability to multitask and perform urgent assignments
  • Good application knowledge of ICT software like MS Office

Duty Station: Nairobi

Duration of Assignment: Three (3) months with possibility of extension to six (6) months
