MashinaniWORKS is a non-profit organization limited by guarantee operating in Northern Kenya, to empower people in Kenya’s ASALs-men, women, and youth to improve their lives through the development of marketable skills, sustainable enterprises, and commerce.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Location: MashinaniWORKS Headquarters, Matunda Gate, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy
Duration: 3-6 months

Communications Intern
The Communications Intern will support the Communications Officer in documentation, promotion, and visibility of MashinaniWORKS programmes. The role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in content creation, digital communications, and storytelling with the mission to impact and transform lives in grassroots communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the collection and documentation of success stories from across programme beneficiaries.
- Assist in photography and videography during various engagements and events.
- Document events and support the creation of visual and written content.
- Assist in planning and executing publicity for events and key campaigns.
- Assist in maintaining and updating the organisation’s digital platforms.
- Assist in managing social media content across MashinaniWORKS platforms.
- Support in drafting and designing internal and external communication content/materials.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, Marketing, or a related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and digital communication tools.
- Basic graphic design skills.
- Photography, videography, and video editing skills are desirable.
- Strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.
- Able to commit to at least 40 hours per week for the entire internship period.
Monitoring and Evaluation Intern
The M&E Intern will support the MEL Officer in collecting, managing, analysing, and reporting data on MashinaniWORKS’ livelihood programmes. The role will contribute to measuring programme performance, documenting outcomes, and generating quality data.
Key Responsibilities
- Support data collection, entry, cleaning, and verification across programme activities.
- Assist in maintaining programme databases and beneficiary records.
- Support the development and administration of data collection tools, surveys, and assessments.
- Participate in field monitoring visits and data quality checks.
- Assist in analysing programme data and preparing summaries, dashboards, and reports.
- Contribute to donor reporting and impact measurement processes.
- Support the tracking of programme indicators and targets.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Monitoring & Evaluation, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data management tools, and any data analysis platforms.
- Ability to organise and interpret quantitative and qualitative data.
- Strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.
- Able to commit to at least 40 hours per week for the entire internship period.
Fashion & Design Intern
The Intern will be assigned to the BeadWORKS Kenya team and report to the Production Manager.
BeadWORKS Kenya operates as a business line of MashinaniWORKS, creating income-generating opportunities for pastoralist women in Northern Kenya across the Counties of Isiolo, Samburu, Laikipia, and Marsabit. BeadWORKS works with over 1,200 artisans to transform their traditional beading skills into high-quality, handcrafted, globally marketable products.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of fashion, textile, and artisan products.
- Support research on fashion trends, customer preferences, and market opportunities.
- Participate in product sampling, prototyping, and quality improvement processes.
- Assist in product photography, cataloguing, and portfolio development.
- Contribute to branding, merchandising, and product presentation activities.
- Support exhibitions, showcases, and any other market-linkage events.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion and Design or related disciplines.
- Strong creativity and understanding of design principles.
- Interest in artisan development, social enterprise, and community-based production models.
- Strong skills in Communications or Digital Marketing will be an added advantage.
- Strong work ethic, adaptability, and willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.
- Able to commit to at least 40 hours per week for the entire internship period.
Candidates are expected to organize their own accommodation, transport, and meals during the internship period. MashinaniWORKS will offer only a small monthly stipend to subsidize internship costs.
