Job Summary
Position: Accounts Assistant
Reports to: Senior Accountant
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, managing payables and receivables, performing reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies. The role is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of financial information to support effective financial management and decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Process supplier invoices and ensure accurate coding and posting into the accounting system.
- Verify supporting documentation and obtain appropriate approvals before payment processing.
- Prepare supplier payment schedules and facilitate timely settlement of obligations.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve outstanding queries promptly.
- Record and reconcile bank transactions on a timely basis.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Process petty cash transactions and maintain supporting documentation.
- Monitor cash balances and report any unusual transactions.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain proper accounting documentation and filing systems.
- Assist in the preparation of tax schedules and statutory filings.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation and explanations.
- Maintain accurate records to support regulatory and audit requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Experience working with accounting software and ERP systems is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP/accounting systems, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience in agribusiness, manufacturing, FMCG, or a similar operational environment is desirable.
