We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and reflective Visual Arts Intern who is eager to develop professionally while contributing to a vibrant learning environment. The successful candidate will support the Visual Arts Department in fostering artistic expression, creativity, and curiosity among learners.
Role Summary
The Visual Arts Intern supports the planning and delivery of engaging visual arts experiences that inspire creativity, artistic confidence, and skill development among learners. Working closely with the Head of Visual Arts and teaching staff, the intern assists with classroom instruction, preparation of materials, studio organization, exhibitions, and school art projects. This role provides an opportunity for an emerging arts educator or practicing artist to gain practical experience in an innovative and learner-centered educational environment while contributing meaningfully to the artistic life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Visual Arts teachers in preparing and delivering high-quality, inquiry-based instruction aligned with Common Core Standards.
- Help maintain a safe, supportive, inclusive, and challenging classroom environment.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain art materials, tools, equipment, and studio spaces.
- Assist with mounting displays, exhibitions, showcases, and community art projects.
- Support documentation of student artwork and learning processes.
- Encourage creativity, experimentation, and positive artistic risk-taking among learners.
- Uphold Woodland Star’s mission, values, and Behaviour Code.
- Participate in school events, projects, and community initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, Fine Arts, Design, or a related field.
- Demonstrated artistic practice through a portfolio of work.
- Previous experience working with children or young people is an advantage.
