About Us

Hope to the Vulnerable Communities (HOVUC) is a registered community-based organization founded in 2017 and officially registered in 2019, working in Kisumu County and beyond. Our mission is to empower women and youth to create equitable, sustainable change through community-driven innovation. We focus on four core thematic areas: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Economic Empowerment, Climate Justice, and Governance and Accountability.

To strengthen our sustainability initiatives, HOVUC runs smart vegetable farming and poultry enterprises that not only serve as demonstration farms for training women and youth but also generate income to sustain our programs beyond donor funding. To support these ventures, we are seeking two dedicated Farm Attendants to work closely with the Agri-Enterprise Development Officer in managing daily farm operations.

Position Summary

The Farm Attendants will play a key role in ensuring smooth operations of HOVUC’s smart farming and poultry projects. They will be responsible for supporting daily farm activities, maintaining high standards of animal and crop husbandry, and ensuring that demonstration farms serve as effective training grounds for women and youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day management of the poultry unit, including feeding, cleaning, brooding, vaccination, and record keeping.
  • Assist in managing smart farming activities such as vertical gardens, organic farming practices, irrigation, and harvesting.
  • Ensure proper hygiene, biosecurity, and maintenance of farm structures and equipment.
  • Assist in incubation processes, chick brooding, and care of both kienyeji and improved kienyeji birds.
  • Support packaging and preparation of produce (eggs, vegetables, poultry) for market and training purposes.
  • Work closely with the Agri-Enterprise Development Officer to provide practical training support during youth and women’s economic empowerment sessions.
  • Monitor farm inputs, report farm health concerns promptly, and support farm record keeping.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Basic Education with ability to speak English or Swahili; a certificate in General Agriculture or related field will be an added advantage.
  • Practical experience in poultry or crop farming (experience in both is an advantage).
  • Basic knowledge of animal health, vaccination, and smart/organic farming techniques.
  • Ability to work physically on farm tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, honesty, and teamwork.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a resident of Kisumu County or willing to reside in Kisumu County.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to gain hands-on experience in smart farming and poultry management.
  • A chance to contribute to community-focused sustainability and empowerment projects.
  • Inclusive and collaborative work environment.
  • Capacity building and growth opportunities within HOVUC’s Agri-Enterprise initiatives.Farm Attendant
