Vacancy Description
St. Josephs Technical institute for the deaf Nyang’oma is an integrated Public TVET accredited institution in Bondo Sub-County along Bondo – Kopolo – Wagusu Road, approximately 12 Kilometers from Bondo Town. The college is seeking to recruit competent and qualified persons to fill the following positions.
SJTTID/BOG/2026/05 – KENYAN SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETOR (ONE POST)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpretation depending on the needs of the students.
- Participate in educational team meetings and provide insight on the effectiveness of communication strategies.
- Provide interpretation services during extracurricular activities and parents’ meetings as directed.
- Assist in providing orientation on deafness and proper use of interpreting services to hearing students and staff.
- Tutor deaf or hard-of-hearing students in various subjects to supplement classroom learning and promote student success.
- Monitor regularly the effectiveness of hearing aids and other assistive devices used by students and maintain appropriate records.
- Monitor individual students to provide assistance where necessary and ensure a quiet, safe, and positive learning environment.
- Conduct research on current trends in sign language interpretation and sensitize staff accordingly.
- Support trainers during classroom or workshop training sessions when required.
- Performing any other duty as maybe assigned by your supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS
- Certificate in Kenyan Sign Language from a recognized Institution
- Certificate in Computer applications.
- At least two years experience in a learning Institution will be an added advantage.
