The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the UN Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent, effective, and principled emergency response. It coordinates global emergency aid, advocates for victims, manages humanitarian financing, and provides policy development to save lives in disasters.

Administrative Intern

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support in day to day filing and maintenance of documents;
  • Assist staff in processing requests for equipment, supplies, extension of UN IDs, transport/hotel bookings(in-coming staff/Missions);
  • Prepare and regularly update spreadsheet on the cost recoveries for private telephone calls and support in cost recovery of the same and personal usage of official vehicles;
  • Assist staff/front office with organizing meetings by booking venues and catering services;
  • Take notes/prepare minutes during the Admin Team meetings and follow-up on action points;
  • Any other duty that will enhance the skills of the intern in administration and management of the Unit

Qualifications/special skills

  • Enrolment in a graduate degree programme of a recognized institution in in Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Resources, Accounting or related field.
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree.
  • Completed University studies not more than a year at the time of applying

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken, ย written, listening and reading English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an French is an advantage.

This intern position is located in Nairobi, within OCHA ROSEAโ€™s ย Administrative Unit with the following modalities: ย Full-time, Part-time, remote, In-person and Hybrid.

Intern Specific text
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
