Role Overview
This role entails supporting the provision of quality food services to enhance the wellbeing of employees and the experience of guests visiting the company. The Food Service Trainee will assist in meal preparation and service, coordinate refreshments for meetings and company events, maintain cleanliness within the kitchen area, and ensure that food is handled in accordance with established hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals, snacks, and beverages under the guidance of the supervisor.
- Support the preparation of ingredients by organizing items required for daily meal production.
- Assist in preparing and setting up refreshments for meetings, trainings and company events, ensuring they are ready on time.
- Support the arrangement of serving stations and coordinate clean up after meal service and meetings.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas in line with established standards.
- Assist in the proper storage of food items and ensure ingredients are handled safely to minimize wastage.
- Help monitor stock levels of kitchen supplies and report shortages or replenishment needs to the supervisor.
- Support the receiving and organization of food deliveries and ensure items are stored appropriately.
- Operate kitchen equipment responsibly and report any faults or maintenance concerns to the supervisor.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor in support of the food service function and overall departmental objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Food Production, Food and Beverage Management, Hospitality Management, or a related field from a recognized institution. Graduates from institutions such as Kenya Utalii College and Boma International Hospitality College will have an added advantage.
- A recent graduate with up to one (1) year of relevant internship, attachment, or work experience in a food service or hospitality environment.
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety practices will be an added advantage.
