BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TRAINEE (BMT) -HUMAN RESOURCES
Reports to: Group HR Manager
Function: Human Resources & Administration
PROGRAMME PURPOSE
The Business Management Trainee (HR) Programme is a structured graduate development programme designed to develop high-potential finance professionals into future business leaders. Through rotational assignments, mentoring, and practical exposure across the employee lifecycle, trainees will gain comprehensive experience in talent acquisition, employee engagement, HR operations, leaning & development, and people strategy, typically over a 12 to 24-month period before confirmation into a substantive role. This programme offers an accelerated pathway into permanent supervisory and management positions upon successful completion,
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Support end-to-end recruitment activities including job postings. CV screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communication.
- Coordinate onboarding programmes and employee induction activities.
- Prepare employment documentation and maintain accurate personnel records.
- Ensure a smooth and positive onboarding experience for new employees.
Employee Relations & People Experience
- Assist in employee engagement initiatives and wellness programmes.
- Support employee relations activities, disciplinary processes, and grievance documentation.
- Respond to routine employee queries while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
- Promote a positive employee experience aligned with the Group's values and culture.
HR Operations & Employee Administration
- Update and maintain employee information within the HR Information System (HRIS).
- Administer employee files, contracts, attendance, leave records and other HR documentation.
- Support payroll preparation through accurate HR data and statutory inputs
- Assist in administering employee benefits and maintaining HR compliance documentation.
Learning, Performance & Development
- Coordinate training programmes, workshops, and leaming logistics
- Assist in the administration of performance management cycles.
- Maintain training records and monitor employee development plans
- Support initiatives that enhance employee capability and organizational performance.
HR Analytics & Compliance
- Prepare HR reports including headcount, turnover, absenteeism, leave balances, and workforce analytics.
- Support compliance with Kenyan labour legislation and statutory requirements including NSSF, SHIF/NHIF, PAYE, and other employment regulations.
- Assist in reviewing HR policies, procedures, and internal communications.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of employee information at all times
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR?
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related discipline (Minimum Second Class Upper Division or equivalent).
- Graduated within the last 1-3 years: strong academic record and evidence of leadership or initiative
Preferred Qualifications
Progress towards IHRM (Kenya) Membership/Diploma or an equivalent HR professional certification is an added advantage.
Basic understanding of Kenyan Labour Laws and HR best practices
Technical Skills
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), HR Information Systems (HRIS) exposure is advantageous, Basic HR Reporting & Analytics, Documentation & Records Management, Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills Confidentiality and tact in handling sensitive employee matters.
